The story of how I started Shimoka Heritage Beverage. My interest in wine started after hearing a renowned cardiologist speak about its health benefits if consumed in measured quantities. This curiosity led me to dig deep and found out its other benefits like prevention of skin ageing. Being a woman, I became fascinated with these benefits and felt that I should also try it out once and started reading about the process of making it. During the initial lockdown of 2019, I began experimenting with winemaking using grapes, later progressing to rice, and eventually exploring the fermentation potential of an array of fruits like banana, apple, and guava. This journey was not just about crafting delicious beverages but also about understanding the intricate processes involved and uncovering the health benefits associated with different ingredients. As I delved deeper into the world of winemaking, I realized the symbiotic relationship it shared with fruit farming. This realization led to a vision of providing farmers with a market for their surplus produce, thereby reducing losses attributed to market scarcity. This dual purpose of creating quality beverages while supporting local agriculture became the driving force behind Shimoka Heritage Beverage. Through meticulous experimentation and a commitment to perfection, I honed the recipes, adjusting variables like fermentation duration, sugar content, water levels, and yeast strains. This dedication to quality laid the foundation for commercial opportunities. With a license from FSSAI under the name of Shimoka Agrotech, I began direct selling to individual customers and participating in promotional events in cafes to raise awareness about these unique and health-conscious beverages. Shimoka Heritage Beverage stands as a testament to the power of curiosity, passion, and a commitment to both personal health and community well-being. From humble beginnings in a time of lockdown and uncertainty, it has blossomed into a venture that not only produces exceptional beverages but also supports local farmers and promotes a culture of health and sustainability.
