400th Years celebration of Bir Lachit Barphukhan
The Concluding ceremony of the year long celebration of 400th Anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukhan is scheduled to be held at Vigyan Bhawan as two days event in the last part of November 2022. It was disclosed by Hon'ble Minister Pijush Hazarika in Assam House , Delhi on 9th September 2022 while interacting with various representatives from the Assamese Communities of Delhi NCR . It was decided to make the event a grand success with larger participation. Sri Hazarika was assisted by several senior level officials from Government of Assam . It is to be mentioned that Lachit Borphukhan was the Commander of Ahom king who defeated the mighty Mughal army in the decisive Battle of Saraighat while Assam was invaded by Mughal.
The Battle of Saraighat was a naval battle fought in 1671 between the Mughal Empire led by Ram Singh I and the Ahom Kingdom led by Lachit Borphukan on the Brahmaputra river at Saraighat, now in Guwahati, Assam, Although weaker, the Ahom Army defeated the Mughal Army by brilliant uses of the terrain, guerrilla tactics, military intelligence and by exploiting the sole weakness of the Mughal forces.
