GURU VE NAMAHA performed by Ms Gayatri Deka
A Bharatanatyam cultural event viz. Guru VE Namaha was beautifully presented by Smti Gayatri Deka in the India International Centre, Lodhi Road , New Delhi on 7th October, 2018 at 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM. Smti Gayatri Deka a reputed Assamese dancer brought up at Delhi and who has been performing professionally for more than 10 years. This Bharatanatyam performance was “A tribute to Gurus” to her Guru Dr Saroja Vaidyanathan ( Padmabhusan Awardee) and Kalashree Smti Anuradha Venkataraman (Senior Disciple of Guru Dr Saroja Vaidyanathan) . The event was attended by around 300 ++ cultural lovers of Delhi /NCR .
The event was inaugurated by Sri Achyut Saikia ,Retd IAS and President , Assam Association, Delhi. Her Guru Dr Saroja Vaidyanathan was presented during her performances.
Gayatri Deka is a senior disciple of Padma Bhushan awardee Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan, she has been training in Bharatanatyam from past 18 years. She started her learning from Ms. Anuradha Venkataraman, who is herself a disciple of Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan and staged her maiden solo performance (Arangetram) in 2008. Academically she is a graduate in Botany(Hons.) from Delhi University. She is a faculty in her guru’s institute Ganesa Natyalaya and in Le Rythme academy of music and dance founded by Rini Mukherjee.
She has performed solos, duets, groups(100+ since 2008) both nationally (Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Tirupati, Vishakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Madurai, Karur, Mahabalipuram, Gwalior, Guwahati, Kolkata, Rajgir etc.) and internationally (Dar es Salam, Arusha, Mwanza, Mombasa, KIsumu, Nairobi, Budapest, Krishna valley, Alsoors, Debrecen, Miskolc and Krakow). She has been part of many prestigious programs, to name a few-
• Opening ceremony of 19th commonwealth games in 2010
• Indo-American friendship meet in 2016
• World Cultural Festival by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 2016
• Farewell ceremony of former president Pranab Mukherjee in Rashtrapati Bhawan in 2017

As being a teacher from past 8 years she has conducted and choreographed many annual functions for schools and academies, have conducted workshops, lecture demonstrations with her guru in SpicMacay, have been the president in her college dance society and won many competitions during her college time. She has been the leading role in the ballets of her guru like Namamey Gange as Ganga and as river Kaveri in a famous production of Ganga to Kaveri by Churchill Pandian, donned various characters in dance dramas like Vishnu and its avatars in Dashavtar, asura, Indra dev, Hiranya kashyap, Durga, snake, sakhi (in Budha) she has also choreographed and directed a production The Incredible India under the banner of Le Rythme.
