This plot of the story is during the initial period of British occupation of Assam i.e. 1824 to 1889. It was inaccessible but British came to know about the existence of petroleum in the dark forest of upper Assam near Digboi. The explorer gave a brief picture about the socio –economic condition of the region during that period. It is an interesting book . Since there are very few published books describing this State at that period, it gave a fair view about the condition of the State at that period . The description about the Singhos , phakial are interesting.
